We are a friendly, contemporary evangelical church, welcoming to anyone who wishes to join us for worship.
St. Peter's Church, Buntingford
Our style of worship is broad so that we can be accommodating to all kinds of Christians. We use a mix of traditional hymns and contemporary songs. As an evangelical church, the Bible is central to our worship of our Lord Jesus Christ. Guided by God the Holy Spirit, we try to be inclusive to all.

Our simplified pattern of services during the current Interregnum is an 11.00 am Family Worship on the first Sunday of the month, Holy Communion at 11.00 am on the second Sunday, and a Benefice-wide Holy Communion on the fourth Sunday which rotates around the three churches, at 10.00 am. When there is a fifth Sunday we have Holy Communion at 11.00 am.
The Rectorship of the United Benefice of St Mary’s Aspenden, St Peter’s Buntingford and St Mary the Virgin Westmill is currently vacant.
St Peter’s has often been overlooked or dismissed by building historians because it is unassuming and was built modestly for the ordinary everyday people of the town. But that is its strength and St Peter’s today remains a modest but active church, there for all the people of Buntingford.
St Peter’s Church building may look unassuming, but it is of immense historical and architectural importance. Built in around 1615 as a preaching house by the then vicar, the Reverend Alexander Strange, it replaced an earlier chapel on the same site. Very few chapels or churches were built in the Jacobean period, and St Peter’s is the first entirely brick-built church of its style anywhere in the world.

The church is kept locked when not in use, but if you would like to see inside, please contact us to find out when activities are taking place or to arrange a visit.
